Quay High Key Large vs Extra Large: Which Size Fits?
Mini is now Large; Original is Extra Large. Compare High Key measurements, check your fit and choose between matching polarized options before you buy.

The fitting desk / Sunglasses
Quay High Key Large is the size previously called Mini. Extra Large is the former Original. Large measures 146 mm across the frame; Extra Large measures 153 mm. Choose Large for the narrower version of the oversized aviator, or Extra Large if you want the broader frame and taller lens.
If you are replacing an older pair, start with its old size name. If you are buying your first pair, compare the measurements with sunglasses that already fit comfortably. “Large” does not mean the same thing across every frame brand.
Mini, Large, Original: which name means what?
It is easy to order the wrong size when a favorite style changes its naming. A review recommending “High Key Mini” may be talking about the pair now sold as High Key Large. The larger, original silhouette is now High Key Extra Large.
The narrower High Key. Start here if you want less width and lens height.
The broader High Key. Start here if you like the full oversized silhouette.
That makes the old name a useful clue when gift shopping. Someone who loves their Mini does not necessarily want to move up a size when they ask for another pair. Match the name first, then confirm the frame and lens color.
The measurements that change the fit
| Measurement | Large | Extra Large |
|---|---|---|
| Frame width | 146 mm | 153 mm |
| Lens height | 53 mm | 56 mm |
| Bridge width | 18 mm | 20 mm |
| Arm length | 145 mm | 146 mm |
Large · 146 mm
Extra Large · 153 mm
Relative widths, not a life-size measuring template. The difference is 7 mm across the whole frame, not 7 mm on each side. Extra Large also adds 3 mm of lens height. Together, those changes affect how much of the face the sunglasses cover; the difference is more than a longer arm.
The bridge is wider on Extra Large too. Both versions have adjustable silicone nose pads, but nose-pad adjustment cannot turn one frame size into the other. If the front feels too wide or the lenses sit heavily on your cheeks, start with the frame proportions.
Choose by fit, then by the look you want
Large is the better starting point if oversized aviators often overwhelm your face. It keeps the High Key shape in a narrower format. It is still an oversized style, so the former “Mini” name should not be read as a promise of a petite fit.
Extra Large is the better starting point if you already like a broad aviator. It offers the wider front and taller lenses. Choosing it solely because you normally wear a large hat is less useful than checking a pair of sunglasses you actually enjoy wearing.
Face-shape advice can suggest a look, but it cannot settle the fit. Two people with a similar face outline can need different bridge spacing or frame widths. Use the millimeter measurements to narrow the choice, then judge comfort and coverage together.
A quick comparison with your current sunglasses
- Start with a comfortable pair. Set it down gently and measure the overall front width in millimeters. Measure straight across rather than wrapping a tape around the curve.
- Compare the same kind of measurement. The 146 mm and 153 mm figures above are total frame widths. Do not compare them with a single-lens width printed inside an arm.
- Think about lens height. If your current pair touches your cheeks when you smile, a taller lens may not be the change you want.
- Check what you want to change. A pair can feel secure yet look too dominant, or look right yet slide down. Decide whether the problem is proportion, width or where it rests.
A home measurement is a useful reference, not a guaranteed fit calculation. Curvature, hinges and nose-pad position also affect how a frame sits. If your existing pair is halfway between these widths, the deciding question is often whether you want a smaller-looking front or more of an oversized statement.
Choose the lens separately from the size
Large and Extra Large describe the frame. Polarized describes a lens feature; Fade describes a gradient appearance. A Black/Fade color name alone does not tell you whether that particular option is polarized.
When comparing prices, keep the configuration consistent. A lower-priced non-polarized Extra Large pair is not the same selection as a polarized Large pair. First settle the size, then compare the exact lens option you want.
Two like-for-like options to compare
For a straightforward size decision, these two options share a black frame and a polarized Fade lens. Both were available at $55 each on October 13, 2026; current prices and availability appear on the product pages.
- High Key Large · Black/Fade Polarized — the former Mini, with a 146 mm frame width.
- High Key Extra Large · Black/Fade Polarized — the former Original, with a 153 mm frame width.
There is no need to choose the bigger frame just to feel you are getting more for the money. At the same listed price, the useful upgrade is the size you will actually wear. For a different silhouette, browse the sunglasses and eyewear collection.
Buying High Key as a holiday gift?
The easiest clue is a pair the recipient already reaches for. If they own High Key, check whether it was Mini or Original. If they wear another style, ask for its measurements or compare it with the table above. A small question now can be more useful than guessing from a photograph.
Keep the lens choice in the same conversation. Someone replacing a polarized pair may want that feature again even when the frame color looks identical. Write down the size, frame color and full lens description before ordering.
If the gift will stay wrapped for several weeks, check the current return policy before buying. Keep the packaging and avoid assuming that a holiday purchase automatically has a longer return window.
High Key sizing questions
Is High Key Large the same size as Mini?
Large is the current name for the former Mini size. The standard High Key Large dimensions are 146 mm frame width, 53 mm lens height, 18 mm bridge width and 145 mm arms.
Which High Key size is the original?
Extra Large is the former Original. Its frame width is 153 mm and its lens height is 56 mm.
Is Large small enough for a small face?
It is the narrower of these two options, but it remains an oversized aviator. Compare it with a comfortable existing pair rather than treating “formerly Mini” as a universal small-face guarantee.
Will choosing polarized change the size?
Size and polarization are separate selections. Confirm Large or Extra Large first, then check the full lens description on the option you select.
