Essential Oils & Fragrance Oils for Diffusers and Home Scenting

Essential oils and fragrance oils offer two different ways to add aroma to a space. Essential oils are plant-derived aromatic oils commonly used in compatible diffusers and other applications according to the product directions. Fragrance oils are scented blends created primarily for aroma and are often used with fragrance-oil burners, compatible diffusers, potpourri, and other home-fragrance formats.

The category can span familiar essential-oil scents such as lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and citrus alongside home-fragrance oils built around balsam fir, pine, cedar, sandalwood, frankincense, vanilla, floral, fruit, spice and seasonal profiles. Because formulas and intended uses differ, the product label and diffuser or warmer instructions should determine how each oil is used.

Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils

• Essential Oils – aromatic plant extracts sold for uses specified by the individual product, including compatible diffuser and aromatherapy applications.
• Fragrance Oils – scented oils formulated primarily for fragrance, including home scenting with compatible oil burners, diffusers, potpourri and décor.
• Diffuser Oils – always match the oil to the diffuser type; not every ultrasonic or water-based diffuser accepts fragrance oil.
• Woodland & Seasonal Scents – balsam, pine, cedar, evergreen, cinnamon and cranberry are popular for fall, Christmas and winter home fragrance.
