A Ned rig pairs a small soft plastic with a compatible light jighead. Begin with a straight rigged bait and a controlled, unhurried presentation; adjust the head weight to depth, wind and current.
Rig it straight
Line the hook up beside the bait before threading it. Feed the hook into the nose, bring the point out along the centerline, and seat the bait against the head. If it curves sharply or twists, rerig it before casting.
Slow down the first few casts
Let the rig settle while watching the line. Try a short movement followed by a pause. Your first aim is to understand the bottom and maintain contact, not to race through every retrieve. Open water or a relatively clear bottom is a simpler place to learn than dense cover.
Give your choice a fair comparison
The Ned Bomb is a ribbed soft plastic with a thin tail, sold by its maker in ten-packs. Compare your results with the same location and retrieve before blaming a particular color. No bait guarantees a bite.
Leave with your tackle
Retrieve snagged tackle only when safe. Pack out torn plastics, line and packaging. Check license requirements and local rules for your water before you fish.
