Dark-colored plastic is the most common starting point for model kits — black, dark grey, dark green, and dark blue runners are standard across Bandai, Tamiya, Hasegawa, and other manufacturers. Painting bright or accurate colors directly over dark plastic means fighting for coverage, adding extra coats, and building up unnecessary paint thickness that softens detail. Mr. Base White 1000 (B518) eliminates that problem by converting the entire surface to a clean, opaque white in one product application. The white base means your top coat colors go on at full brightness with fewer layers, and the final paint buildup stays thinner.
Mr. Base White 1000 is not the same product as Mr. White Surfacer 1000 (B511), though both are white and share the 1000-grit particle size. Mr. White Surfacer is formulated primarily for filling and surface correction — it lays down a heavier coat designed to be sanded. Mr. Base White is formulated for opacity and color hiding — it lays down a thinner, more pigment-dense coat designed to be painted over directly. If your goal is to convert dark plastic to white and move straight to painting, this is the product. If your goal is to fill seam lines and sand the surface smooth, Mr. White Surfacer is the better choice.
💡 How to Use
Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute before spraying. Hold 10–12 inches from the surface and apply in light, sweeping passes — do not attempt full coverage in a single coat. Allow each pass to flash dry (approximately 5–10 minutes) before applying the next. Two to three light coats will produce a fully opaque white surface on dark plastic. Allow 30 minutes minimum drying time before applying top coats. Compatible with Mr. Color lacquer paints, Mr. Aqueous Hobby Color, Tamiya acrylics and lacquers, and most hobby acrylic and enamel paints. Store upright in a cool, dry location away from heat sources.
