The short answer

The Flexfit 6277's S/M range is 6¾–7¼; L/XL is 7⅛–7⅝. Both include hat sizes 7⅛ through 7¼. If you fall in that overlap, the chart gives you two candidates—not one guaranteed fit. Compare how each feels, or choose an adjustable style if you want to change the band setting.

The letters can make this choice look simpler than it is. “Medium” sits beside “large,” yet their numbered ranges overlap. Start with your hat size, then use the fit checks below to avoid choosing only by the label.

The Flexfit 6277 size chart

Standard adult stretch-fitted 6277: US hat sizes
Size label US hat-size range Shared range
Small / Medium 6¾–7¼ 7⅛–7¼
Large / X-Large 7⅛–7⅝ 7⅛–7¼

These numbers are US hat sizes, not head circumference in inches. A size 7¼ does not mean a head measuring 7¼ inches around. If you have a tape measurement, use the head-circumference chart supplied for the cap before comparing it with these ranges.

Youth and XXL versions are separate choices. Do not stretch the adult S/M or L/XL chart to cover a size outside its stated limits.

Find your starting point

Choose the line containing your known US hat size. This narrows the range; it does not replace trying on the cap.

6¾ to below 7⅛

Start with S/M. Your size is within S/M and below the listed L/XL range. Check for comfortable contact around the band without squeezing.

7⅛ through 7¼: the overlap

Compare S/M and L/XL. Both ranges include your size. Do not automatically size down for a tighter fit. If S/M presses uncomfortably, compare L/XL; if L/XL slips, compare S/M or another crown shape. If neither feels right, consider an adjustable cap.

Above 7¼ through 7⅝

Start with L/XL. Your size is above S/M's listed maximum. A stretch band is not a reason to choose a smaller range.

Outside those ranges, or I only know my circumference

Check the specific cap's size chart before choosing. Look for a version whose stated range includes your measurement. Do not assume another Flexfit model has the same range, and do not treat an adjustable cap as a universal fit.

Check the size you already wear

A comfortable fitted cap's label is a useful reference. Confirm that it shows a US hat size rather than another sizing system. If you measure your head, keep the tape level around the place where the band normally sits, just above your ears, without pulling it tight.

Repeat the measurement and compare it with the chart for the exact model. Measure with your hair arranged as you normally wear it under a cap. A loose tape, a tilted tape or a different hairstyle can make the comparison less useful.

Try the fit, not just the size label

  1. Put the cap in your usual position. Do not force the crown lower to make it feel secure.
  2. Check the whole band. Notice pressure at the forehead, temples and back.
  3. Move normally. Look down and turn your head to check whether the cap slides.
  4. Compare the crown shape. A size inside the range can still feel wrong for your head shape.

The goal is comfortable contact and a stable fit. A cap that hurts is not a good starting point; do not rely on stretching or washing to rescue the wrong size.

Fitted 6277 or 6277 Adjustable?

The standard 6277 has a closed back and stretch fit. The separate 6277 Adjustable adds a snapback, giving you another way to change the fit. It is useful to compare when you prefer an adjustable band, but its size limits still matter.

If you are choosing between solid fabric and a mesh-backed trucker instead, use the 6277 vs 6606 comparison. That decision is about cap construction; this chart is for the standard fitted 6277.

Buying a gift or ordering caps for a group?

Collect actual sizes before ordering fitted caps. For a gift, checking the label of a cap the person already wears is more useful than guessing from height or clothing size.

For decorated caps, confirm the fit before committing to embroidery. A sample lets you check both the cap and the finished design before buying a larger batch.
