Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 is the top rung of GSI Creos' Surfacer ladder and the only one that comes in colors. Where the general grades exist to repair and prime, this one exists to perfect: the finest granules in the family, laid as the last thing your model wears before paint.
It assumes the repair work is already done. Seams, gaps, and scratches belong to the coarser Mr. Surfacer grades; this bottle takes the corrected surface and makes it flawless, then hands the paint a base shade chosen on purpose instead of by default.
🎨 Black, Grey, or White?
Black is the drama base. Metallics sprayed over black go deeper and shinier, dark schemes build faster, and builders who shade from black up get their shadow layer and their primer in one coat.
Grey is the neutral reference. It biases no color, shows surface flaws the most honestly, and is the pick when a scheme mixes light and dark colors over the same body.
White is the brightness engine. Reds, yellows, oranges, and whites only glow when lit from beneath, and a white base is what keeps those notoriously translucent colors vivid instead of muddy.

Bring the surface to this step already repaired and sanded. Thin with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner and mist light airbrush coats until coverage is even, or brush neat for small parts. If anything needs smoothing afterward, the finest waterproof grits are all it takes. Ask less of it as a filler than you would of the lower grades; erasing flaws isn't its job, hiding none of your detail is.

Lacquer rules apply: spray it with genuine airflow and a rated mask, keep flames and heat sources away, and don't let an open bottle sit, because the solvent that escapes is the viscosity you lose. Not for young builders.

What's the difference between this and Mr. Surfacer 1200?
The 1200 is the finest of the general-purpose grades, still a fill-and-prime product. The 1500 is a different product with a different job: finishing. It fills next to nothing, lays smoother than anything below it, and is the only rung with the black and white options. Repair with the ladder, finish with this.
Is it enough as a primer on its own?
On a clean, well-prepped surface, yes; it grips plastic and resin like the rest of the lacquer family and many builders use it as their only primer. What it won't do is rescue a rough surface, so flawed plastic needs a coarser pass first.
Bottle or the spray can version?
The 170ml cans (B526, B527, B529) carry the same three colors for builders without an airbrush. The bottle costs less per use, thins to your preference, and puts down lighter, more controlled coats, which is the point of a finishing product.
Does the white cover well?
White undercoats are the weakest hiders in any paint system, and this one is no exception to physics: plan on several misted coats rather than one wet pass. The reward for patience is the brightest possible foundation, which is why the color exists.
