For a basic morning routine, start with a gentle cleanser, then moisturizer and sun protection. At night, cleanse and moisturize. If you use a prescribed treatment, follow your clinician’s instructions for where it belongs.
A routine you can actually repeat
A bathroom shelf does not need to look like a beauty counter. Begin with the basics you will comfortably use, then make changes for a specific reason. Adding several products at once makes it harder to tell which one agrees with your skin.
Think of the order as three jobs: clean, moisturize, protect. A treatment is a separate decision; it is not an automatic fourth step everyone needs.
Morning: keep the final step protective
Use a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer suited to your skin. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, along with shade and protective clothing. Apply sunscreen before makeup, follow its label, and reapply as directed.
A moisturizer with sunscreen can simplify the shelf. The product still needs the right protection and must be applied and reapplied according to its label.
Evening: make room for consistency
Cleanse, then moisturize. If you use medication for acne or another condition, its instructions take priority over a generic routine diagram. Persistent irritation is a reason to get individual advice, not to keep adding products.
Your first useful upgrade might simply be moving the products you already use into an easy-to-reach spot. A routine that fits your actual mornings has more value than an elaborate one you abandon.
